The District of Wesermarsch is a member of the Joint Initiative for the Development of Rural Areas - LEADER since 1996.

As part of the extrapolation of this particular promotion instrument, the Wesermarsch has presented its own concept for the development and retention of its unique cultural landscape in 2007 together with committed personalities from the region. In particular, smaller, innovative projects from the fields of tourism, regional products, nature and culture in old Wesermarsch towns and municipalities are to be implemented within the framework of this concept.

According to the motto "Wesermarsch on the move", projects have been furthered up to now that serve to improve collaboration among the culturally creative forces in the Wesermarsch, that develop the peculiarities of the district's cultivated landscape for those seeking recuperation, that extend the spectrum of tourist offers available, and that give their marketing a more professional touch.
